Surrounded By Stone.
In the last couple of days I have been waiting to hear back from a client before I can make a start on my latest commission piece. Sometimes, in between figurative paintings, I try to create something entirely different in an attempt to clear my head and gain a fresh perspective on my work. This week, for some reason I had an overwhelming urge to paint stones. They had to be textured, raw, and for some reason stacked on top of each other…why stones???
When I sat and thought about this I realised that stones had become a very consistent theme in my life lately for a number of reasons.
1. My sister has just moved about 15 minutes away from me in a little place called Clydesdale just outside Daylesford and her propety is surrounded by a beautiful stone wall.
2. Every night at 6.30pm, my son Jasper likes to watch the night garden. His favourite character is Macca Pakka, who happens to collect stones.
3. I look outside my living room doors and am surrounded by a beautiful stone wall, and on the ground and thousands and thousands of little…stones, and finally
4. I work at Pantechnicon Gallery and last week some wonderful new sculptures were brought in by artist Kaya Storm and many of these involved collections of stones (very very beautiful works).
Sometimes you become inspired about something and it takes a little while to work out where that inspiration came from. Either way, I am enjoying painting my stone series and plan to do a few more to complete the set.
I truly find this a interesting subject. Never looked at this subject in this manner. If you are planning to create more articles relating to this subject, I definitely will be back in the near future!
